Old Shime Mining Station Vertical Shaft 旧志免鉱業所竪坑櫓
Old Shime Mining Station Vertical Shaft 旧志免鉱業所竪坑櫓 is the remaining structure of the old government funded coal mine (closed down in 1964). It is listed by the Japanese Government as an Important Cultural Properties 重要文化財 due to its value in contemporary architectural history.
The structure was completed in 1953 (above the ground part, 47.65m in height) and 1945 (underground part, 430m deep).
The nearest train station are Sue station 須恵駅 of JR Kashii Line JR香椎線.
